Concrete Driveways & Patios in Washington Township / Sewell, NJ
Washington Township (Sewell), Gloucester County. Family-owned, licensed and insured, and self-performing every stage of the work since 1979.
We replace driveways, front walks, patios and pool decks across Washington Township and Sewell. Flatwork poured with the original 1970s–90s developments is now at replacement age, and many 1990s patios and pool surrounds are being removed or rebuilt. We break out the old concrete, build a compacted stone base, and pour slabs pitched to shed water off uneven-draining ground.

A whole township's flatwork aging at once
Washington Township grew heavily through the 1970s, 80s and 90s, mostly as single-family developments on quarter- to half-acre lots. Driveways and front walks went in with the houses, and on many streets they're reaching the end of their service life together. Owners notice widening cracks, sunken sections at the garage, flaking near the street and walks that tip toward the stoop.
Because construction was similar across whole developments, the failures are similar too — which means the fixes are well understood.
Sandy loam over clay drains unevenly
Ground here is sandy loam over clay in many places, and it drains unevenly: one development handles a storm while the next holds water for days. Where clay sits close under a driveway, water collects beneath the slab, freezes and lifts it. Where developments were built on cut-and-fill, the compacted subgrade can be firm in one spot and soft fill a few feet away.
A compacted stone base evens that out, supporting the slab uniformly and giving trapped water a path away.
Repair or replace
A single broken section on a sound slab can sometimes be cut out and replaced. When the whole driveway is settling and cracking because the base was minimal from the start, patches just move the failure. We'll show you what we find and recommend what actually lasts.
1990s patios and pool decks
A great many Washington Township properties added decks, pools and patios in the 1990s. Those patios and pool surrounds are now cracking, lifting and tipping, and some owners are removing the pool entirely. Whether you're replacing a patio, rebuilding a pool deck or reclaiming the yard after a removal, we can handle the concrete and the site work together.
Patios that drain away from the house
A patio that has settled toward the house sends rain straight to the foundation. New patios are pitched away from the house on a compacted base, and where a yard collects water at the patio edge, a drain can carry it off.
Removal and haul-away
Old concrete is broken out, loaded and hauled away. We protect lawns, beds and neighboring driveways along the access route and keep the street clean.
Building the base
After removal, we excavate below soft soil, dig out any pockets of loose fill, and install stone in compacted lifts. In sandy sections, the base also keeps the slab from settling as fine soil shifts beneath it.
Pitch on flat-to-rolling lots
Forms are set to a planned fall that carries water away from the garage and house and toward the street, the yard or a drain. On gently rolling lots, we use the natural grade where it helps and correct it where it doesn't.
Reinforcement and control joints
Every slab is reinforced and jointed at proper spacing so cracking happens in straight lines inside the joints. New concrete is isolated from the house, garage and walks so each can move on its own.
Front walks and stoops
Original front walks often tip toward the house or step down at the stoop where the ground settled. We replace them on the same base as the driveway and match the finish so the front of the house looks like one job.
Aprons and street work
The apron takes salt, plows and turning traffic. We build it to meet the street cleanly; work in the right-of-way generally needs township approval, which we handle.
Commercial flatwork
Commercial concrete in the township concentrates along the Route 42 and Egg Harbor Road corridors. We replace failed sidewalk, curb-line and lot sections over compacted base and phase the work to keep businesses open.
Utilities first
The Washington Township MUA provides water and sewer. We have every utility marked before breaking concrete. If a line under the driveway needs replacing, doing it while the slab is out avoids cutting new concrete later.
What a finished job looks like
A finished job should look even, clean and properly jointed, with crisp edges, no low spots, and the surrounding lawn graded and ready for seed. After the first heavy rain, water should run off the surface and away from the house. If anything doesn't perform the way we said it would, we come back and look at it with you.
Season and aftercare
We schedule most flatwork from spring through fall, avoid pours before freezing nights, and work around heavy rain so fresh concrete sets properly. We'll tell you when it can take foot traffic and when it can take a car, and recommend keeping harsh deicers off it through its first winter.
