Sewer & Water Line Repair
Century-old clay laterals crushed by street-tree roots are the classic Haddonfield job. We camera the line, work in the smallest footprint that will do it, and restore brick, slate or concrete walks rather than leaving a patch.

Excavation & Grading
Narrow side yards, stone foundations and mature root plates mean compact machines and hand work. We plan the approach before mobilizing and protect what has to stay — walls, walks, and the trees themselves.

Concrete Driveways & Patios
Walks, aprons, single-width drives and patios that have to match an established streetscape. Where a section sits in borough right-of-way, we coordinate the specification and inspection rather than guessing.

Drainage & French Drains
Old basements plus downspouts that discharge directly against a stone foundation. We move roof and surface water away from the wall first, which often does more than any interior system.

Inground Pool Removal
Rare here and always an access problem: small back yards reached through a narrow drive or between houses. We assess honestly whether a machine can get in, and what has to come apart if it can't.

Housing stock
Haddonfield is one of the oldest housing stocks we work in: Victorians, colonial revivals and pre-1930 homes with stone or brick foundations, many with basements that were never intended to stay dry, and original clay sewer laterals that have been in the ground for the better part of a century. Side yards are narrow, driveways are often single-width and shared, and a lot of the borough's brick and slate walks are original. That combination means the work here is defined by access and restoration as much as by the pipe or slab itself. Additions and kitchen expansions frequently sit on shallow, unreinforced footings that have to be worked around carefully.
Ground conditions
The borough sits on relatively firm ground compared with the flatter townships east of it, and the land falls toward the Cooper River corridor, so surface water at least has a direction to run. The dominant underground factor is roots: Haddonfield's mature street-tree canopy is the reason most of the sewer laterals we replace failed. Old clay joints give roots an entry, the pipe crushes, and the first symptom is a slow drain rather than a backup. Excavation is complicated less by soil type than by everything sitting on top of it — brick walks, stone walls, root plates and a hundred years of buried surprises.

Haddonfield questions, answered.
That depends on where the property sits and what's visible from the street, and it's not something to assume either way. We confirm with the borough before scheduling anything that changes a visible surface such as a front walk, apron or driveway. Underground work generally raises fewer questions than what gets rebuilt on top of it.
Often yes, with mini-excavators and track machines sized for gate-width access, plus hand digging where nothing fits. Where the only route is through a neighbor's property we ask first and get it in writing. On the site visit we tell you plainly whether machine access exists or whether the job becomes largely hand work — which costs more but is sometimes the only option.
Sometimes the trench line can be shifted to miss it. When it can't, we lift the brick carefully, stockpile it and reset it after the trench is compacted, rather than pouring concrete over an original walk. Slate and bluestone get the same treatment. Anything that can't be salvaged, we tell you before we lift it.
It's maintenance, not a fix. Cabling clears the roots that grew in since the last visit but leaves the crack that let them in. If a camera shows separated joints or a crushed section, replacement of that run ends the cycle. If the pipe is otherwise sound, periodic cleaning may genuinely be the sensible economic choice — we'll say which one you're looking at.
We handle the work and coordinate the inspection. The specification — thickness, jointing, slope and materials in the right-of-way — is set by the borough, so we confirm the current requirements with the construction office rather than pouring to a general standard and hoping it passes.
