We remove inground pools across Gloucester Township in Camden County — Blackwood, Sicklerville's township side, Erial, Glendora and the rest. Why owners take a pool out
Most calls start with a repair estimate. A liner that needs replacing, a cracked shell, a leaking return line or a heater at end of life can each cost a meaningful share of what removal does — and removal ends the yearly opening, chemicals, insurance and electric for good.
Others are planning ahead: a sale, a growing family that wants open yard, or an addition or garage that needs the space. Whatever the reason, the job goes better when we know the end use before the first truck arrives.
Full removal or partial fill-in
A full removal takes out the walls and floor completely, then refills the hole with clean structural fill. It leaves nothing buried, which is the cleanest answer if you might build there or sell soon.
A partial fill-in breaks the top of the walls down, perforates the floor so water drains, and fills over what remains. It costs less, but it is generally disclosed at sale and limits what can go on top. We explain both on site and quote whichever fits.
Permits and the township
Gloucester Township requires a demolition permit before a pool comes out, and the pool's electrical circuit has to be properly disconnected and closed out. We file the paperwork and schedule inspections so the property record shows the pool as removed.
If your house sits in an association neighborhood, check your covenants — association approval is a separate track we can't file for you.
Utilities we coordinate with
Sewer in the township is run by the Gloucester Township Sewer Utilities Department, and water comes from Aqua New Jersey or New Jersey American Water depending on the address. We request a utility markout before digging and ask about private lines — irrigation, landscape lighting, gas to a pool heater — that the public markout won't show.
Pool water is drained to an approved discharge point, never pushed across a neighbor's yard.
How the job runs
A typical removal follows this order:
- Site visit to confirm pool type, depth, decking and access from the street
- Township demolition permit and utility markout
- Electrical disconnect at the panel and capping of any gas heater line
- Drain the pool and remove the equipment pad, filter, heater and plumbing
- Break out the shell and haul concrete, steel or liner to licensed facilities
- Backfill with clean fill placed and compacted in lifts
- Final grade away from the house, then topsoil and seed
Backfill is the part that matters
The demolition is loud; the backfill is what you live with. Fill dumped in all at once settles for years, leaving a low spot where the pool was and cracks in anything built over it. We place fill in compacted lifts and set the final grade to shed water away from the foundation.
If the space will hold a patio, shed, slab or addition, tell us before backfill — that ground gets compacted to a different standard than lawn.
What changes the price
We quote after seeing the yard. The main variables are pool construction (vinyl with steel walls versus gunite), depth, the amount of concrete decking, access through the side yard, how much fill has to be imported, and the finish you want — seed, sod or a prepared pad.

Gloucester Township questions, answered.
Yes. The township requires a demolition permit and an electrical closeout for the pool circuit. We handle the filing and inspections as part of the job.
Yes, and it usually should. Leaving a concrete surround behind means its edge sits above the settled fill and cracks along the old pool line. Removing it in the same mobilization costs far less than coming back.
Once the backfill is compacted and graded we topsoil and seed. Seed takes best in spring and early fall; sod gives an immediate finish over the same prepared grade.
Gloucester Township is split between Aqua New Jersey and New Jersey American Water depending on address. We confirm it during the site visit.
