Demolition that leaves usable ground

Demolition is more than knocking something down. For Gloucester Township homeowners, the goal is usually to clear space for new lawn, a new slab or a new building. Because we also do excavation and concrete, we take the structure down, remove what's underneath it and leave the ground ready for the next step.

What we demolish

Typical projects in the township include:

  • Detached garages and carports, including slabs and footings
  • Sheds and small outbuildings
  • Decks and their concrete piers
  • Additions, porches and sunrooms
  • Inground pools, decking and equipment pads
  • Driveways, patios, walks and steps

Removing everything below grade

A structure isn't really gone if its slab, footings and piers stay in the ground. Leftover concrete gets in the way of planting, fencing, new footings and utility work later. We dig it out completely and haul it off.

Utility disconnects first

Before demolition, gas, electric and water serving the structure must be shut off and disconnected. Some disconnects are done by the utility and some by licensed trades. We sequence them, confirm each is off and call in a utility markout before digging.

Sewer service is provided by the Gloucester Township Sewer Utilities Department, with wastewater treated by the Camden County MUA. Water comes from Aqua New Jersey or New Jersey American Water depending on the address. If a structure had its own connection, we coordinate capping with the right provider.

Township permits

Most demolition requires a permit from the township construction office, and proof of utility disconnects is usually needed before it's issued. We file the application, schedule inspections and close the permit out when the work is done.

Garages and outbuildings

A detached garage usually includes a slab, perimeter footing and often an electrical feed from the house. We confirm the feed is disconnected, take the structure down, break out the concrete and fill the area properly.

Decks and additions

Decks and additions attach to the house, so removal starts at the connection. We protect siding, doors and the foundation, then remove the structure and every pier or footing. If the work could affect the part of the house that stays, the township may require drawings first.

Pool demolition

We remove the pool shell or break it up as appropriate, remove decking and equipment, disconnect electric and plumbing, and backfill in compacted layers so the yard stays level.

Old concrete

Driveways, walks and patios that have cracked and settled are saw-cut at clean edges, broken out and hauled away, making room for a new slab on a proper base.

Backfill and grading

Every void — footing trench, slab area, pool — is filled with suitable material in compacted layers. The final surface is graded to pitch away from the house and toward a legal outlet so the cleared area doesn't hold water.

Selective demolition

When only part of a slab or floor needs to go — for a sewer repair, for example — we saw-cut clean edges and protect what remains.

Older materials

Older structures can contain materials that need testing before demolition. If we see anything suspect, licensed specialists handle it before we proceed.

Hauling and cleanup

All debris is hauled away, with clean concrete recycled where possible. We protect drives and walks along the equipment route and clean up daily.

Emergency service

If a sewer line fails, our crews respond around the clock.
